This rare double-sided charcoal drawing by Helena de Kay features Winslow Homer sketching Helena de Kay, capturing the charged energy between artist and muse. On the reverse, Helena's own self-portrait shows her in anguish, throwing herself onto her bed after her mother forbade her to accept Homer's proposal. Though angered, Homer later forgave her and invited her back to his studio. A poignant glimpse into the emotional and creative ties within the Gilder Palmer family.
